SoBro will use the $16,000 of City grant funding in 2025 to complete two major Phase 2 projects at 209 South Broadway.

We will plant three additional beds of native trees, shrubs, and perennials, and install sustainable pathways that will invite public access to the gardens, both for education and for recreation.

SoBro took ownership of our South Broadway preserve in July 2022. We spent 2023 assembling a team, building community support, developing a garden plan under the guidance of Design Wild, beginning the restoration of our degraded soils, and planting two oaks and a basswood tree. In May 2024, our volunteers planted about half of the parcel as Phase 1.  These plants thrived beyond our wildest expectation. (Check out this slideshow of before and after photos.)

We are now prepping the beds for a Phase 2 planting, planned for May 10, 2025.  The pathway project will also be part of the 2025 work plan.

The mission of SoBro Conservancy is to conserve vacant urban parcels and transform them into pollinator-friendly green spaces, while educating about how such green spaces strengthen the web of life on which human well-being depends.
